Spring 2017

April 24, 2017

SLAY Comedy Showcase is currently on hiatus. We had our last show at Sidhe Brewing on St. Patrick's Day. The brewery is closing to re-open with a new name in a new location in downtown St. Paul. We'll be there again, but for now we're looking for a new home. Our three-month residency at The Warming House was a treat. They were just named best new music venue by City Pages, so definitely check them out if you get a chance.

2016 Wrap-Up

December 23, 2016

I have a few more shows before the end of the year. SLAY Comedy will be at Sidhe Brewing Co. in St. Paul on December 30. We have a great lineup as always. This show will be our last at Sidhe's current location. They'll be closing temporarily to move to a new building in St. Paul. They are planning to re-open in late spring or early summer 2017. In the interim, SLAY will be hosted at a different venue on the fourth Wednesday of the month. This location will be announced in January, so stay tuned.

Also, for New Year's Eve, I will be writing and acting in Smarthmouth Productions' "It's That Time of the Month," a sketch comedy show at Phoenix Theater in Minneapolis. We'll be working in teams to write sketches, based on prompts received 24 hours or less (oy vey) before we perform them. We'll be ringing in the new year together as well. Read more about the show and Smartmouth Productions on BroadwayWorld.com.

Winter highlights, spring stuff

March 25, 2016

Winter highlight: It's almost over.

SLAY Comedy Showcase is still going strong at Sidhe Brewing in St. Paul. We're now the fourth Friday of the month, and we're nearing our two-year anniversary. I'd say we will be doing a special anniversary show, but all of these shows are special and I'm not one for hyperbole. This month, our show is March 25 (today!) at 8 pm, with Tiffany Norton headlining. Next month, the show will be on April 22.

I produced and hosted a few Oh Snap! triple feature shows at Mounds Theatre in St. Paul. We had a lot of fun and the audiences grew as time went on.

We recorded a few more episodes of Donut Friday at Minnehaha Recording Company. These were, as we say, "good pod", so check those out on iTunes or, if you're a true rebel, Zune Marketplace. I'm currently in the process of bringing Donut Friday to a different format, so production is on hold until the details of that get hammered out.

I spent a week down in St. Louis in late October. How great is the St. Louis standup scene? It's super great. The folks I met were welcoming and the shows had great concepts. I was on the podcast "Sorry, Please Continue", where we made fun of people's stories as they told them. That podcast is on iTunes as well and I recommend you check it out.

Upcoming spring stuff: If you're in the Twin Cities and don't know about the Die Laughing comedy marathon, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's 50 hours of comedy; you're bound to like something. In years past, I've taken half-hour spots and even recorded an episode of Geeks Without God. This year I've decided to tackle an entire hour. It's at midnight between April 9 (Saturday) and April 10 (Sunday). It will consist of mostly standup, but I'm including a never-before-seen sketch as well as an old favorite of mine that I don't get to do as often as I like. The marathon is pay what you can, so don't be put off if you don't have thousands or dozens of dollars to give to Fearless.

Also, luck favored me during this year's Minnesota Fringe Festival lottery. I received sponsorship to cover my production fees and will be working on that for most of the summer. It's my first time producing a Fringe show and I'm looking forward to it. I'm using it as an opportunity to distance myself further from social media. It's helpful, sometimes enjoyable, but it's become more of a fixture than it ought to be and 8th grade Elizabeth would be disappointed with how much time I spend on something so pointless. There is love in the world and it's not on reddit. Or Twitter. Or Instagram. (Please follow me on Twitter @lizdropsit and Instagram /wyatt_twerk.)

Summer highlights

September 26, 2015

The SLAY Comedy Showcase now takes place at Sidhe Brewing Company in St. Paul every second Friday. This is a free showcase stacked with the best local up-and-coming talent and great locally made beer.

I started BINGO BANGO comedy and bingo night in May at Mounds Theatre in St. Paul. It had a great run, but there were just too many balls in my life so this event will be on hiatus through the winter. Now at Mounds, I produce and host Oh Snap!, a triple feature comedy night ($5). These are longer sets than you would see at SLAY and in a theater environment. So much fun! Our next show is November 5th, so come check it out.

I closed out the summer with a trip to Chicago for RiotFest and performed at the Laugh Factory's Blipsters on Broadway show. Also very fun.
